Pathways are part of the journey

Life rarely follows a single straight path. At different points we find ourselves choosing directions and exploring possibilities. Sometimes we are walking a road we chose deliberately. Other times we arrive somewhere and realize there may be other directions we could explore.

If you are wondering about other routes that might exist, the questions below may be a starting point.

Try this short reflection exercise.

Imagine that you are the architect of your own life. If you could design a few different paths forward, what might they look like?

You do not need to worry about whether these ideas are practical. This exercise is simply about exploring possibilities.

Path A: The path you are currently on
What does this path look like right now?
Think about work, routines, relationships, responsibilities, and where this path may lead.

Path B: The practical pivot
If circumstances required you to change direction tomorrow, what might you do instead? Plan B for your life.

Path C: The curiosity path
Is there something you have always been a little curious about but never seriously explored? Something you may never have tired? Something you may know little about?

Path D: The ultimate bold path
What is the idea you might not even want to admit to yourself? The idea that you want to do, but are afraid to pursue.
If you could be bold for a moment, what would that path look like? Be bold. Be creative.

You can also ask yourself:

• What parts of my life would I keep?
• What would I let go of?
• What kinds of activities make me feel productive or purposeful?

You do not need to have all the answers. Sometimes simply asking these questions opens the door to new ways of thinking.

If you would like to explore these ideas further, this is exactly the kind of conversation we can have in counselling. A conversation to reflect and take the next step forward.

At Progressive Steps Counselling, the focus is not on rushing to solutions, but on helping people move thoughtfully toward the life they want to build.
